Yessian Music, Wildchild Perform "Exorcism of the Possessed Builder" For Clash of Clans

DAVID New York created this Clash of Clans spot which parodies horror movie sequels. Titled “The Exorcism of the Possessed Builder,” this piece meshes new game material and existing material to show the transformation of a normally mild-mannered Clash of Clans builder into a demon-possessed villain.

Yessian Music served as music/sound house and its work helped to turn a happy game into a darkly tinged game with a tongue-in-cheek vibe--dovetailing with Clash of Clan’s Halloween update.

Brian Yessian, Yessian partner/chief creative officer, said, “Clash of Clans is such an iconic game with millions of players around the globe, so we had to find a way that would capture the audience that knows the game (and the music) so well, but give it a dark twist (that was not overly dark).  Together with DAVID New York and Wildchild, we came up with a recipe for the perfect workflow that kept the audio and visuals in sync through the entire process.  We were all in constant communication for several weeks to make sure the story would translate and connect with the gaming community.”

Yessian composer Andy Grush shared, “The biggest challenge with this wonderful film was finding the balance of timing.  It was about allowing specific moments to dance with the music and sound design and letting sound design dance with music and music dance with sound design.  A lot of that was executing multiple versions internally so we could all react to the different ideas to picture and assess how each version made us feel.  We also stayed away from scoring any of the comedy because the story was done so well, that with the proper performance of music playing unapologetically, we felt like the comedy could shine through and be felt in the confidence of it all.”
